Hi, my name is Rick and I'm a ...
(wait, this isn't a 12-step meeting :-)
... I'm a freelance Drummer/Pianist/Web Designer born and raised in
Columbus, Ohio. I graduated from The Ohio State University (Go Bucks!) with a BS
in Computer & Information Science
but I'm not your typical computer nerd! Besides working with computers,
I have always been very active in music. I have toured with drum &
bugle corps for a number of years, first playing in the pit and then
marching on bass drum with the Marion Cadets. For the premier season of
Limited Edition, I marched snare drum and represented the corps as a
member of the DCM All-Star Drum & Bugle Corps marching on quads.
While at OSU, I was a five-year member of the OSU Marching Band playing
snare drum, and played drum set in the OSU Jazz Combos, OSU Jazz Lab
Ensemble, and the OSU Jazz Ensemble receiving the Tri-C award for
outstanding musicianship.
Currently, I am working as a professional musician playing keyboards and drums for "Shadowbox Live",
the nation's largest resident theater ensemble.
Occasionally you may find me drumming with "The Tim Dvorkin Trio" playing jazz fusion
and originals, or playing simultaneous drums & keys with "The Silky Ray Band"
performing rhythm & blues and jazz, and I also lead my own band: "The Rick
Soriano 3man 4tet" where I play drums and keyboards simultaneously! In addition,
I sometimes play drums & keys with "Anna & the Consequences",
keyboards with "J London & the Band of Friends" playing smooth jazz, or keyboards with "Inner City Blues Band"
playing blues, or with "The Russell Blue Band" playing Latin
jazz/R&B/funk/pop, and I also play keyboards with "The Soriano Duo" playing classical, jazz, new age, and pop,
as well as playing solo piano gigs.
I have drummed with the Michael Arnold Group playing contemporary
jazz/fusion, the Michael Arnold Trio playing traditional jazz, with Vince
Andrews playing contemporary and traditional jazz, with "The Missing Link" playing a mix of jazz,
with "After Hours" playing traditional and contemporary jazz, and also with
"Groove Palette" performing jazz, fusion, and originals. I have also
played timbales & percussion with the Noe Salsa Project playing Salsa, Merengue,
Cha-cha, Bachata, and Latin jazz.
Additionally, I have played keyboards
with "The Patrol" performing a mix of jazz and R&B, with "Mojo Jack"
playing blues, rock, and funk, with Lydia Brownfield's band: "Trouble With
Brownfield" playing rock originals and covers, and also with "Stackhouse East"
playing cover tunes from the 60's to the present.
I have a wide range of interests: many styles of music (especially jazz),
playing drum set, timbales and piano, snow skiing, rollerblading, tennis, racquetball,
and dancing (mainly salsa, merengue, bachata, some cha cha, swing, and freestyle/hip-hop).
